IHC Calls PM Kakar in Baloch Student Missing Case

The Caretaker Prime Minister, Anwaar ul Haq Kakar, has been summoned to appear before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on November 29 in relation to a case involving the disappearance of Baloch students.

In response to the government’s inability to locate the missing students, the court has directed the government to present the 55 missing students, as per the recommendations of the Baloch Enforced Disappearance Commission.

During the proceedings on Wednesday, the court cautioned that, besides the Prime Minister, the Ministers of Interior and Defense might also be called to testify. Concurrently, the Additional Attorney General for Pakistan has appealed to the court not to summon the premier and ministers.

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani has given a seven-day deadline to implement the recommendations. Expressing displeasure, Justice Kiani remarked that it was regrettable for the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sarfaraz Bugti, both from Balochistan, not to comprehend the gravity of the situation involving missing Baloch students.

The judge requested the Additional Attorney General to clarify the nature of the case, emphasizing that it was the 21st hearing, and the commission had been formed on the court’s orders. The matter was forwarded to the federal government as it pertained to enforced disappearances.

Justice Kiani highlighted that the future of 51 students was at stake and criticized the lack of progress despite the involvement of senior officials in the commission. He stressed the court’s responsibility to ensure the implementation of the commission’s recommendations, stating that the commission seemed to have been formed to deceive the courts.

The judge expressed hope that, over time, there would be improvement, and the missing individuals would gradually return home.
