Dar Meets US, Chinese Envoys Amid Regional Tensions

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held separate meetings with US Charge d’Affaires Natalie Baker and Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zedong on Friday, discussing bilateral relations, regional developments and cooperation.

During his meeting with the US envoy, Dar discussed the current state of Pakistan-US relations, bilateral cooperation and developments in the region.

Dar stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving regional issues and achieving lasting peace. He said the full implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed on June 18 remained an important way forward.

The deputy prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to contributing to regional peace and security while protecting its national interests.

Baker appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability. She also congratulated Dar and the people of Pakistan on the country’s Independence Day.

Dar assures China of assistance

In a separate meeting with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zedong, Dar expressed condolences over the death of a Chinese climber in an avalanche on Broad Peak.

The deputy prime minister assured the Chinese envoy that Pakistan would provide full assistance and facilitation for the repatriation of the climber’s body to China.

Jiang thanked Pakistan for its timely assistance and cooperation following the incident.

The Chinese ambassador also conveyed Independence Day greetings to Dar, Pakistan’s leadership and the people of the country.

He reaffirmed China’s commitment to its long-standing and time-tested friendship with Pakistan.

Focus on regional cooperation

The meetings highlight Pakistan’s continued diplomatic engagement with both Washington and Beijing as regional security concerns remain a key focus of its foreign policy.

Dar’s discussions with the two envoys also underline Islamabad’s efforts to maintain constructive relations with major international partners while promoting dialogue and stability in the region.
