Kite Makers Seek Early Licenses Ahead of Basant 2027

Representatives of the District Kite Flying Association have urged the Punjab government to issue licenses to kite manufacturers ahead of Basant 2027.

They warned that delays in issuing licenses could lead to another shortage of kites and strings during the festival.

The demand was made during a press conference following a meeting of the association’s office-bearers in Allama Iqbal Town.

Chairman Khawaja Nadeem Saeed Wain, President Sheikh Saleem and other association representatives attended the meeting.

Wain said kite manufacturers should be allowed to resume production from September.

He suggested allowing manufacturers to operate for four to five months so they can build sufficient stocks before Basant 2027.

He said manufacturers should be permitted to begin preparations because the festival has already been officially announced.

According to Wain, citizens faced difficulties purchasing kites and strings during Basant 2026.

He attributed the shortage to the limited time manufacturers had to produce supplies before the festival.

Wain urged the government to avoid repeating the same situation during Basant 2027.

The association also called for manufacturers’ licenses to be reissued before production begins.

Representatives further demanded that the kite-flying business be allowed to operate on a permanent basis.

They said early licensing would give manufacturers enough time to prepare supplies according to government regulations.

The demands come after Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced the dates for Basant 2027 in Lahore.

According to the announcement, Basant 2027 will be held in Lahore from March 12 to 14.

The chief minister said the dates were finalized following the successful Basant 2026 celebrations.

She also invited young people from across Pakistan, overseas Pakistanis and foreign visitors to participate in the three-day festival.

Basant returned to Lahore earlier this year after remaining banned for a prolonged period.

The Punjab government allowed the festival under specified safety and regulatory conditions.

The kite manufacturers’ association is now seeking early approval so producers can prepare adequate stocks before the next festival.

The association said timely licensing could help prevent shortages and ensure that manufacturers have enough time to follow safety requirements.
