The Bhatti Chowk Underpass in Lahore has been completed and opened to traffic after just four months of construction, according to the Punjab government.
The project was developed as part of the Punjab government’s efforts to improve traffic flow and ease congestion in Lahore’s Inner City and the area surrounding Data Darbar.
Traffic Congestion Eased
According to the provincial government, the new underpass has addressed a long-standing traffic congestion problem at Bhatti Chowk.
The route had frequently experienced heavy traffic, causing delays for motorists, public transport and commercial vehicles travelling through the area.
With the underpass now operational, traffic movement is expected to become smoother and travel times are likely to decrease for commuters.
Travel Time Reduced Significantly
Citizens have welcomed the opening of the underpass, with one resident saying that travelling through the area previously took around 10 to 15 minutes.
Following the opening of the new route, the same journey can now reportedly be completed in just two to three minutes.
Transporters and other commuters have also appreciated the completion of the project, particularly because of the reduction in congestion and improved movement through one of Lahore’s busiest areas.
Project Completed in Four Months
The Punjab government said the Bhatti Chowk Underpass was completed within four months, allowing traffic to resume through the newly developed route.
Officials described the project as part of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s vision of improving public services and urban infrastructure.
The government said the project is expected to provide long-term relief to commuters travelling through Lahore’s Inner City and around Data Darbar.
With the underpass now open, motorists can use the new route as authorities continue efforts to improve Lahore’s road infrastructure and reduce traffic congestion across the city.
