A five-foot-long snake suddenly emerged from beneath the bonnet of a moving car in Tennessee, leaving a woman and her family shocked during a routine journey.
The family was travelling to Mount Juliet to purchase football equipment for their youngest daughter when the unexpected encounter unfolded.
The woman was filming the journey when she noticed what appeared to be a large snake on the bonnet of the vehicle. Her husband then pointed out that the creature was indeed a snake, prompting the family to try to stop the car.
Snake Jumps Away
The family attempted to pull over and remove the snake from the vehicle.
However, before they could bring the car to a complete stop, the snake suddenly jumped away, ending the unusual encounter.
The incident was captured on video, giving viewers a glimpse of the unexpected situation that unfolded while the vehicle was still moving.
Snake Believed to Be Non-Venomous
Mallory Tate, a biodiversity specialist with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, said the snake visible in the footage appeared to be a grey rat snake.
According to Tate, the species is non-venomous and commonly found across Tennessee.
Although the sight of a large snake emerging from a moving vehicle can be alarming, grey rat snakes are generally not considered dangerous to humans.
Similar Incidents Reported
The unusual incident is not the first time a snake has been spotted on or around a moving vehicle.
Several similar cases have been reported in different parts of the United States over the years.
In 2023, police in The Village, Oklahoma, responded to a comparable incident involving a snake on a moving vehicle. Authorities eventually captured the snake and safely relocated it.
The Tennessee incident has since attracted attention because of the unusual circumstances, with the family unexpectedly discovering the reptile while travelling to complete an ordinary shopping trip.
