The Sindh government has decided to release salaries and pensions for the month of May before Eid ul Adha, offering financial relief to government employees and pensioners ahead of the religious festival. According to an official notification issued by the authorities, payments will be disbursed on May 20 so that public servants can comfortably manage their Eid-related expenses and preparations.
The decision has been welcomed by employees and pensioners across the province, as many families usually face increased financial responsibilities during Eid ul Adha. Early payment of salaries and pensions is expected to help citizens make arrangements for sacrificial animals, household shopping, and other festival-related needs without facing financial pressure at the last moment.
Eid ul Adha in Pakistan is expected to be observed on May 27 this year, subject to the sighting of the Zil Hajj moon. The religious festival is celebrated annually on the 10th of Zil Hajj, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar, and holds great significance for Muslims around the world.
Earlier, Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad had announced the sighting of the Zil Qad moon on April 18 after receiving testimonies from various regions of the country. Following the announcement, the first day of Zil Qad was observed on April 19, 2026.
According to astronomical experts, the moon for Zil Hajj is expected to be born between the night of May 16 and 17. Experts further stated that by the evening of May 17, the moon’s age would exceed 18 hours, increasing the possibility of clear visibility in several parts of Pakistan.
If the moon is sighted as expected on May 17, Eid ul Adha is likely to be celebrated nationwide on May 27. Citizens across the country have already started preparing for the upcoming religious occasion.
