Sindh Approves 500 Electric Buses for Two Cities

Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon chaired an important meeting of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority board where major decisions were made to improve and modernize public transport systems in Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur.

During the meeting, the Sindh government approved the construction of a modern terminal for heavy transport vehicles outside Karachi at the Northern Bypass. The facility will be used for trucks, trailers, and other large vehicles to help manage traffic flow more efficiently.

Officials also approved a separate heavy vehicle track connecting Karachi Port to the Northern Bypass. The purpose of the dedicated route is to keep heavy traffic away from the city’s busy roads and reduce congestion in urban areas.

Sharjeel Memon said the project would improve Karachi’s overall traffic conditions and support a better transport system for residents. He added that the government is focusing on modern transport solutions to make travel safer and more comfortable.

One of the key decisions taken during the meeting was the approval of 500 electric buses under a public-private partnership model. The electric buses project aims to expand eco-friendly public transport services across Sindh and reduce environmental pollution.

According to officials, 450 electric buses will operate on 25 different routes in Karachi, while another 50 electric buses will run on five routes in Hyderabad. The buses are expected to provide affordable and modern transport facilities to thousands of daily passengers.

The board also approved the establishment of five modern EV depots in Sindh to support the new electric buses network. Four depots will be built in Karachi, while one depot will be established in Hyderabad.

Officials believe the electric buses project will play an important role in improving public transportation, reducing fuel consumption, and promoting environmentally friendly travel across the province.
