The Jaglot–Skardu Road has been reopened for all types of traffic after remaining closed for several days due to flash flood damage near Sassi Haramosh. The reopening restores a key transport route connecting Gilgit and Skardu, bringing relief to travellers and local communities.
The road was reopened following emergency restoration work carried out by the National Highway Authority (NHA) and the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO). Teams worked continuously to clear debris, repair the damaged section, and restore safe passage for vehicles.
The closure had disrupted the movement of passengers and goods, leaving many commuters stranded and affecting supply chains in the region. Authorities prioritised the restoration work to minimise the impact on residents and travellers.
A day before the road reopened, Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan visited the flood-damaged bridge near Sassi Haramosh Ansar Camp to inspect the site and review the progress of repair work. During the visit, he directed officials to speed up restoration efforts and deploy additional heavy machinery to complete the repairs as quickly as possible.
The minister expressed confidence that the damaged infrastructure would be fully restored soon. He also praised the NHA and FWO teams for working around the clock despite challenging weather and difficult terrain.
Chairman NHA, the Secretary for Communications, the Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan, and the Commissioner of Gilgit accompanied the minister during the inspection. Officials reviewed the ongoing work and discussed further measures to strengthen the affected infrastructure.
The reopening of the Jaglot–Skardu Road is expected to improve travel conditions, restore the smooth movement of goods, and support economic activity in Gilgit-Baltistan. The route is one of the region’s most important road links, connecting communities and facilitating tourism and trade.
Authorities have advised motorists to drive carefully, as repair work on surrounding infrastructure may continue in some areas affected by the recent flash floods.
