Pakistan Faces Possible Surge in Gas Prices Amid Rising Costs

Pakistan is facing growing concerns over rising Gas Prices as liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies are disrupted. The situation has developed after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route.

According to sources, around 22 LNG cargoes expected to arrive in Pakistan by May have been halted. This disruption has created fears of a serious energy shortage. Officials warn that the impact could be felt across multiple sectors in the coming weeks.

The shortage of LNG is expected to directly affect Gas Prices in the country. Experts believe that authorities may have to increase tariffs to manage financial pressures. The gas sector is already facing a significant revenue gap.

Reports suggest that the combined revenue target for gas companies exceeds Rs852 billion this year. Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited has a target of Rs515 billion. Meanwhile, Sui Southern Gas Company aims to collect Rs347 billion.

A large portion of revenue comes from the power and fertilizer sectors. Any disruption in gas supply to these industries could further worsen the financial situation. This may also increase pressure to adjust Gas Prices for consumers.

Experts have warned that if the supply gap continues, households may face higher utility bills. The removal of subsidies and tariff adjustments could make gas more expensive for domestic users. This raises concerns about affordability amid ongoing inflation.

In addition, the shortage may lead to gas load shedding. Authorities may prioritize supply for electricity generation. This could reduce availability for homes and small businesses.

The crisis highlights Pakistan’s dependence on imported energy. It also shows the risks linked to global supply routes and geopolitical tensions. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has exposed vulnerabilities in the energy system.

Analysts say the coming months could be challenging. Rising Gas Prices, limited supply, and financial strain may create pressure on both consumers and industries.

Officials are monitoring the situation closely. However, without a quick resolution, Pakistan may face a difficult period in managing its energy needs.
