General Syed Aamer Raza has officially assumed command as Pakistan’s first-ever Commander National Strategic Command after being promoted to the rank of four-star general.
The change of command ceremony began with a Guard of Honour. After the ceremony, General Syed Aamer Raza visited Yadgar-e-Shuhada. He laid a floral wreath and offered Fateha to pay tribute to Pakistan’s martyrs.
Following the ceremony, the newly appointed Commander National Strategic Command met Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, at General Headquarters (GHQ).
During the meeting, Field Marshal Asim Munir congratulated General Aamer Raza on taking charge of the important military position. He also expressed his best wishes for his future responsibilities.
The two senior military leaders discussed the command transition. They also reaffirmed the Pakistan Armed Forces’ commitment to operational readiness, strategic stability, professionalism, and national security.
A Major Step in Military Command Structure
The appointment of General Syed Aamer Raza represents an important development in Pakistan’s military leadership structure. As Commander National Strategic Command, he will oversee one of the country’s most sensitive and significant commands.

Extensive Military Career
General Aamer Raza joined the Pakistan Army’s elite 6th Lancers in the 1980s. He has served in the military for nearly four decades.
Throughout his career, he has held several important operational and leadership positions. His experience includes frontline operations, strategic planning, military education, and defence management.
He has commanded the 6th Lancers Regiment, an Armoured Brigade, and an Infantry Brigade deployed in South Waziristan. He also led an Infantry Division and the prestigious IV Corps Lahore.
Before his current appointment, General Aamer Raza served as Chief of the General Staff (CGS) at GHQ Rawalpindi. The position is among the Pakistan Army’s key appointments, involving coordination of operations, intelligence, and strategic planning.
Previous Key Responsibilities
During his career, General Aamer Raza also served in several major staff positions. These included Chief of Staff II Corps, Director General of the Weapons and Equipment Directorate, and Chairman Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT).
As Chairman HIT from April 2020, he supervised Pakistan’s leading defence production facility. The organization is responsible for manufacturing armoured vehicles, tanks, and other defence equipment.
His leadership contributed to Pakistan’s efforts toward greater self-reliance in defence production.
Education and Military Training
General Aamer Raza has completed professional military education from leading institutions. He is a graduate of the Command and Staff College, Quetta, and the National Defence University, Islamabad.
He also earned a degree in International Relations from the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom.
His professional education includes advanced studies in warfare, strategy, and national security.
He has also contributed to military training and doctrine development. He served as an instructor at the School of Armour and Mechanized Warfare and later held academic roles at the Command and Staff College, Quetta.
