LGS Faces Criticism for Continuing Classes Until June 10 Despite Punjab Summer Vacations

Lahore Grammar School (LGS) is facing criticism from students and parents after reports emerged that classes are continuing until June 10 despite the Punjab government’s official summer vacation schedule starting from May 22.

According to reports circulating among students, the LGS Senior Boys branch in Johar Town, Lahore, has reportedly instructed Grade XI students to continue attending regular physical classes during the ongoing heatwave. The decision has triggered concern among families as temperatures continue to rise across Punjab.

The Punjab government had earlier announced summer vacations for schools due to extreme weather conditions and increasing heatwave risks. However, messages allegedly shared by the school administration suggest that some academic activities at LGS are still continuing beyond the official closure period.

Students and parents claim that Grade XI in-person classes are expected to continue until Wednesday, June 10, 2026. The school reportedly plans to begin summer holidays from June 11 instead of following the provincial schedule.

According to the circulated communication, online classes will reportedly be held on Fridays and Saturdays in line with government guidelines. However, regular physical attendance for other weekdays has raised questions regarding compliance with provincial directives.

The issue has sparked debate on social media, where many students and parents expressed frustration over continued academic pressure during severe weather conditions. Critics argue that students’ health and safety should remain the top priority during the heatwave period.

The controversy has also increased scrutiny on whether private educational institutions are fully implementing emergency instructions issued by the Punjab government. Authorities had announced school closures to protect students from intense heat and related health risks.

Another point of concern among parents is the reported reopening schedule. According to available information, the school plans to reopen on August 5, 2026. This is reportedly almost three weeks earlier than the Punjab government’s official reopening date of August 24.

The situation has created confusion among students preparing for exams and summer plans. Some parents believe private institutions should strictly follow government policies during emergencies to avoid unnecessary risks.

Despite the criticism, there has been no official public clarification yet regarding the reported continuation of classes. Education observers say the matter may raise broader questions about policy implementation and oversight in private schools during weather-related emergencies.

The ongoing heatwave across Punjab has already affected daily routines, educational activities, and outdoor movement in several cities. Authorities continue to advise citizens to avoid unnecessary exposure to extreme temperatures during daytime hours.
