The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rain, strong winds and thunderstorms across several parts of Pakistan over the next 24 to 48 hours, with isolated areas likely to receive heavy rainfall.
The weather system is expected to affect several northern and upper parts of the country, including Islamabad, Kashmir, parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Heavy Rain Expected in Upper Catchments
Widespread rain, strong winds and thunderstorms with isolated heavy rainfall are expected over the upper catchments of the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej rivers.
Islamabad and Kashmir are also expected to receive widespread rainfall during the forecast period.
The expected rainfall in the upper catchment areas could increase water flows in rivers and streams, particularly during periods of intense precipitation.
Rain Forecast in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, widespread rain and thunderstorms are forecast in several districts, including:
- Abbottabad
- Bajaur
- Batagram
- Buner
- Haripur
- Dir
- Malakand
- Mansehra
- Mardan
- Shangla
- Swabi
- Swat
- Tor Ghar
Scattered rainfall is also expected in Charsadda, Chitral, Khyber, Kohat, Kohistan, Mohmand, Nowshera and Peshawar.
Punjab Areas Likely to Receive Rain
Several districts of Punjab are also expected to experience rain, strong winds and thunderstorms.
The forecast includes Gujranwala, Gujrat, Jhelum, Lahore, Narowal, Rawalpindi, Sheikhupura and Sialkot.
Scattered rainfall is expected in Attock, Chakwal, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Kasur, Khushab, Mandi Bahauddin, Nankana Sahib and Sargodha.
Chiniot has also been included in the 48-hour forecast.
Rain Forecast for Gilgit-Baltistan
Several areas of Gilgit-Baltistan are also expected to receive rainfall.
The forecast includes Astore, Darel, Diamir, Ghizer, Gilgit, Gupis and Tangir.
Some areas may experience stronger winds and thunderstorms alongside the rainfall.
Weather Outlook for Next 48 Hours
The PMD has maintained its forecast for widespread rain, thunderstorms and strong winds over the next 48 hours.
The upper catchments of the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej rivers are expected to remain among the areas receiving significant rainfall, while Islamabad and Kashmir could also experience widespread showers.
Authorities and residents in vulnerable areas are advised to remain alert during periods of heavy rainfall, particularly in areas prone to urban flooding, flash floods and water accumulation.
The weather conditions are expected to remain active across several parts of the country as the forecast period continues.
