Google Pakistan Office to Create Jobs, Boost Digital Skills

Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima has welcomed the opening of Google’s office in Pakistan, saying the development could create new opportunities for digital skills, employment and growth in the country’s technology sector.

She described Google’s arrival as an important milestone for Pakistan’s IT industry and said the government wants to use the development to expand digital opportunities, attract more international technology companies and strengthen Pakistan’s position in the global technology market.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated Google’s Pakistan office a day earlier. Speaking to the media, Shaza Fatima said the presence of a major global technology company could create significant opportunities for Pakistan’s economy while providing new avenues for young and emerging talent.

Google to Support Digital Skills Development

Shaza Fatima said collaboration with Google would help Pakistan develop its digital workforce and create new employment opportunities for young people.

She highlighted Google’s existing contribution to skills development in Pakistan, saying the company has provided around 350,000 certificates in the country over the past several years.

The minister said the company’s local presence could further expand access to digital learning and help Pakistani professionals acquire skills that are increasingly in demand in international markets.

She added that a stronger technology workforce could contribute to the growth of Pakistan’s digital economy and help increase employment opportunities in the IT sector.

Govt Focuses on Digital Technology

According to Shaza Fatima, the government is actively working to promote digital technology and expand investment in Pakistan’s IT sector.

She said the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and the federal government are playing an important role in attracting international technology investment.

The minister also said Pakistan’s IT sector has maintained a trade surplus, while IT exports have continued to increase.

She emphasized that the government wants to build on this progress by attracting more global companies and creating an environment where technology businesses can expand their operations.

Pakistan Seeks Bigger Role in Global Tech Market

Shaza Fatima said Pakistan’s broader objective is to establish a stronger position in the global technology market.

She said the arrival of major international technology companies could benefit the economy by creating opportunities for local businesses, skilled professionals and young people.

The minister expressed hope that Google’s decision to establish an office in Pakistan would encourage other major global technology companies to consider setting up operations in the country.

“Hopefully, after Google, other big IT companies will also come to Pakistan,” she said.

Govt Credits Google Initiative to IT Push

Shaza Fatima congratulated the government team involved in facilitating Google’s arrival in Pakistan.

She particularly acknowledged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and the SIFC for their support in promoting the country’s technology sector and attracting international investment.

The minister said the government would continue efforts to bring more global technology companies to Pakistan and strengthen the ecosystem for digital businesses and professionals.

The opening of Google’s Pakistan office is therefore being viewed by the government as an opportunity to expand digital skills, create jobs and accelerate the country’s ambitions in the global technology industry.
