Punjab Govt Imposes Section 144 Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha to Protect Human Lives

The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province ahead of Eid-ul-Azha to maintain public safety, protect human lives, and improve environmental conditions during the holiday period. The Punjab Home Department issued official orders confirming the restrictions.

According to the notification, the restrictions under Section 144 will remain effective from May 27 to June 2. Authorities said the measures were introduced to prevent dangerous activities and maintain peace during the Eid days, when large numbers of people participate in sacrificial rituals and public gatherings.

Under the new orders, the burning of animal heads and trotters at public places has been completely banned. Officials believe such activities create health risks and environmental pollution in residential and commercial areas.

The government has also prohibited swimming and bathing in rivers, lakes, canals, and dams during the restricted period. Authorities said the decision was taken to prevent accidents and drowning incidents, which often increase during holidays.

In addition, disposal of animal waste and offal into drains, canals, or manholes has been banned under Section 144. Officials warned that improper disposal of waste could damage sanitation systems and create serious public health concerns.

The Punjab government has also restricted the sale and purchase of sacrificial animals outside officially approved cattle markets. Authorities stated that unauthorized animal markets create traffic problems, hygiene issues, and security concerns in urban areas.

The restrictions were imposed under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, by the Punjab Home Secretary. The Home Department spokesperson said the steps were necessary to ensure public safety and reduce anxiety among citizens during Eid-ul-Azha.

The spokesperson added that certain activities during the festive season could threaten public health and disturb law and order if left unchecked. The government aims to maintain a clean and peaceful environment across Punjab throughout the Eid holidays.

Authorities have also announced strict monitoring of sacrificial hide collection activities. No banned organization will be allowed to collect animal hides during Eid-ul-Azha. Only organizations registered with the Punjab Charity Commission will be permitted to receive sacrificial hides.
