The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather advisory for Sindh. Several districts are expected to receive rain and thunderstorms from September 13 to 16.
The advisory follows a weather system being monitored by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The system developed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and nearby Odisha.
According to the PMD, the monsoon low has moved toward South Chhattisgarh and surrounding areas. It is expected to continue moving westward.
The system may bring rain and thunderstorms to different parts of Sindh. Weather conditions could vary across districts during the forecast period.
Karachi is expected to receive light rain and thunderstorms from September 14 to 16. Other districts may experience dust storms, thunderstorms and rainfall.
The weather department has also forecast moderate to isolated heavy rain in some areas. Strong winds may accompany thunderstorms during the weather spell.
Tharparkar, Umerkot and Mirpurkhas are among the districts expected to receive rain. Badin, Thatta, Sujawal and Tando Muhammad Khan are also included.
These districts may experience dust-thunderstorm rain from Sunday evening until September 16. Some areas could receive moderate to isolated heavy rainfall.
The rainfall may occur with breaks during the forecast period. Residents have been advised to remain alert during periods of strong winds and thunderstorms.
Sanghar, Khairpur and Hyderabad may also receive light to moderate rain. Tando Allahyar, Matiari and Shaheed Benazirabad are included in the forecast.
Jamshoro is also expected to receive dust-thunderstorm rain from September 14 to 16. The rainfall in these areas may remain intermittent.
The Karachi Division could experience thunderstorms and light rain during the same period. The PDMA has asked relevant authorities to prepare for possible weather-related incidents.
Sindh Chief Minister’s Adviser on Rehabilitation Giyanchand Essrani said rain was expected across several areas. He said the weather spell could continue until September 16.
Essrani directed deputy commissioners to keep staff and machinery ready. Relevant departments were also asked to prepare for emergency situations.
He further instructed the PDMA and Sindh Emergency Rescue Service 1122 to remain on high alert. Officials have been directed to respond quickly if conditions worsen.
The authority has also issued instructions to district administrations and other concerned departments. District Disaster Management Authorities have been asked to take preventive measures.
The PDMA advised all stakeholders to remain vigilant during the forecast period. Authorities were also asked to take steps to reduce risks from heavy rain and strong winds.
Residents in affected districts are advised to follow official weather updates. They should also exercise caution during thunderstorms and periods of strong winds.
