Authorities Warn Travelers as Snowfall Hits Babusar Top

NARAN: District authorities in Naran have issued a travel advisory for Babusar Top, urging tourists, travellers and transport operators to exercise caution amid continued snowfall and hazardous road conditions.

The district administration said on Saturday that persistent snowfall in the area could cause difficulties for travellers and advised them to check weather conditions before undertaking any journey to the mountain pass. In the advisory, officials said that traffic flow on the Babusar Top road and surrounding areas had been disrupted due to ongoing snowfall, with some sections open only for one-way movement.

Authorities warned that travel on the route becomes nearly impossible after 6pm due to intensifying snowfall and reduced visibility. They said that slippery conditions, vehicle brake failures, glacial activity, falling rocks and the risk of landslides posed serious risks to both life and property.

The administration urged tourists, transport operators and the public to avoid non-essential travel until further notice and to strictly follow instructions issued by local authorities and police.

Babusar Pass was reopened to traffic on May 25, allowing vehicles to resume on the seasonal route linking Kaghan Valley with Chilas and parts of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The high-altitude pass, located at more than 13,000 feet above sea level, remains closed during winter from November to mid May due to heavy snowfall, avalanches and hazardous conditions
