ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal has called on Pakistan’s youth to pursue excellence, confidence, and innovation. He said young Pakistanis are not “cockroaches” but “Iqbal’s Shaheens,” encouraging them to play a leading role in the country’s future.
Ahsan Iqbal made these remarks while addressing the launch ceremony of a national anthem for Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day. The event also marked the 150th birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He said the ceremony reflected a renewed commitment to national unity, development, and progress.
The minister said Pakistan’s ideological foundation was built on the vision of Allama Muhammad Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. According to him, the year 2026 provides an important opportunity for the nation to renew its commitment to the principles set by the country’s founders.
Speaking about governance, Ahsan Iqbal rejected claims that Pakistan’s institutions had failed. He said the country is passing through a period of national reform rather than system failure. He added that efforts are underway to modernize institutions, improve governance, and align national priorities with the demands of the 21st century.
The minister stressed that governments alone cannot achieve national development. He said progress requires the combined efforts of young people, professionals, the private sector, civil society, and public institutions. He encouraged every segment of society to contribute toward Pakistan’s growth.
Referring to the economic situation in 2022, the minister recalled that many analysts had predicted Pakistan would default. He said the country avoided that outcome through collective efforts, policy decisions, and national resilience. According to him, these measures helped Pakistan move toward greater economic stability.
The minister also highlighted the government’s URAAN Pakistan initiative. He described it as a national transformation framework designed to prepare Pakistan for a one trillion dollar economy. The plan focuses on increasing exports, expanding the digital economy, encouraging technological innovation, and improving energy security.
He added that the initiative also aims to strengthen education, healthcare, and human capital while supporting sustainable economic growth. The government, he said, is working to create more opportunities for future generations through long-term reforms.
Ahsan Iqbal said Pakistan is investing in artificial intelligence, digital skills, and modern technologies. He noted that these investments are intended to prepare young Pakistanis for emerging global opportunities and future job markets.
