The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has extended electricity bill payment deadlines to ease the burden on citizens impacted by recent rains and floods. The decision comes as many households and businesses face financial and logistical challenges caused by the extreme weather.
According to LESCO officials, the extensions will be rolled out in phases to ensure timely assistance for the most affected areas. Under company rules, customers are allowed up to two deadline extensions on their bill payments.
In the first step, the due date for bills has been extended until September 25. If payments are still pending, a second extension will move the deadline to September 29. However, officials made it clear that late payments will attract additional charges. A 5% surcharge will apply after the first extended date, while payments made after September 19 will include a 10% surcharge.
The relief package also covers tube-well connections, offering agricultural consumers the same support. This measure is expected to help farmers who are struggling with crop losses and rising costs due to the floods.
LESCO stated that the move is designed to support citizens during difficult times while ensuring the billing system continues smoothly. Company representatives stressed that this step shows a balance between providing relief and maintaining operations.
