Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves recorded a modest increase during the week ended August 13, 2026.
According to the State Bank of Pakistan, its reserves increased by $25 million during the week. The total reached $17.081 billion.
The SBP held $17.057 billion in foreign exchange reserves during the previous week. The latest figures show a small improvement in the central bank’s reserves.
Pakistan’s total liquid foreign exchange reserves also remained above $22 billion. They stood at $22.506 billion as of August 13.
The total reserves include holdings maintained by the SBP and commercial banks. The SBP accounted for the larger share of the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
Commercial banks held $5.424 billion in foreign exchange reserves. Their holdings decreased by $17.1 million compared with the previous week.
Despite the decline in commercial bank reserves, the overall reserve position improved slightly. The increase was mainly supported by the rise in SBP holdings.
The latest figures provide an update on Pakistan’s external liquidity position. Foreign exchange reserves remain an important indicator of the country’s ability to meet external payments.
The reserves also help support payments for imports and other international obligations. Their level can change due to several factors during each reporting period.
The latest data showed only a limited weekly movement. The SBP increase of $25 million was relatively small compared with the overall reserve stock.
The country’s total liquid reserves reached $22.506 billion during the reported week. This figure includes both central bank and commercial bank holdings.
The SBP’s reserves accounted for approximately three-quarters of the total liquid reserves. Commercial banks held the remaining portion.
The latest reserve level also provides around 2.55 months of import cover. This measure indicates how long reserves could support imports at the current level.
The import cover figure remains an important measure for Pakistan’s external financial position. It helps indicate the availability of foreign exchange for import payments.
The SBP regularly publishes data on the country’s foreign exchange reserves. These figures provide information about changes in official and commercial bank holdings.
The latest increase comes as Pakistan continues to monitor its external financial position. Stable reserves can support confidence in the country’s foreign exchange market.
However, weekly changes do not necessarily indicate a long-term trend. Reserve levels can rise or fall depending on inflows and external payments.
The latest SBP data therefore shows a small improvement in official reserves. The central bank’s holdings increased while commercial bank reserves declined.
Overall, Pakistan’s liquid foreign exchange reserves remained at $22.506 billion. The SBP accounted for $17.081 billion of this total.
The latest figures underline the importance of maintaining adequate foreign exchange reserves. They remain crucial for meeting import requirements and external financial obligations.
