KP Floods Kill 307 People; Buner Records Heaviest Death Toll Of 213

Heavy rains and flash floods have devastated KP, causing the deaths of at least 307 people. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed these figures on Saturday.

The worst-hit districts in KP are Buner, Battagram, and Mansehra. Many families were swept away or trapped under rubble during the floods. Among the victims, 279 were men, 15 were women, and 13 were children.

Buner suffered the heaviest loss, with 213 deaths reported. Gadezai Tehsil alone recorded 150 fatalities, while 25 deaths occurred in Dagar. In one tragic incident, 22 family members died when their home collapsed in Chagharzai.

Rescue teams from Rescue 1122 have set up medical camps in Buner and are using heavy machinery to clear blocked roads. Despite their efforts, reaching remote villages in KP remains very difficult.

In Battagram’s UC Shamlai area, 30 to 40 people were swept away by flash floods. Mansehra also faced significant damage. Search and rescue operations are ongoing across KP, with local authorities and volunteers helping.

The KP government declared a day of mourning, with flags flying at half-mast at official buildings. The Chief Minister approved Rs500 million for emergency relief and is personally supervising rescue efforts.

Flooding has also affected neighboring regions such as Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. In Gilgit-Baltistan, landslides and floods damaged roads and bridges. A tourist died in a landslide on Skardu Road. In Azad Kashmir, many roads and bridges were destroyed, isolating thousands of people.

Rivers in Punjab and KP are rising, increasing the risk of floods. Authorities have warned residents near riverbanks to evacuate to safer areas.

Relief teams in KP continue to deliver food, medicine, and tents to displaced families. Officials say all departments are working together to manage the crisis and support affected communities.
