Global Oil prices increased sharply on Thursday as Brent crude moved above the $100-per-barrel level. The rise came after growing security concerns in the Red Sea created fears about possible disruptions to international energy supplies.
At the time of reporting, Brent crude was trading at $100.10 per barrel. It gained $6.07 or 6.45 percent during the session. Meanwhile, U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude reached $91.49 per barrel, increasing by $4.66 or 5.37 percent.
The latest increase pushed Brent crude higher by around 42 percent in 20 days. Market participants are closely monitoring developments in the Middle East as tensions continue to affect important shipping routes used for global energy transportation.
The recent price jump followed claims by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi group that it attacked two Saudi oil tankers near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Following the incident, some shipping companies changed their routes due to rising security concerns.
The Bab el-Mandeb Strait is a major global trade route. Together with the Strait of Hormuz, it handles a significant portion of the world’s seaborne crude oil shipments. Around 25 to 30 million barrels of Oil pass through these two important waterways every day.
Any disruption in these areas could affect global energy markets. Longer shipping routes may increase transportation costs and create additional pressure on international supplies. This uncertainty has contributed to the recent rise in crude prices.
Oil markets have already seen a sharp increase in recent weeks. Prices have climbed by nearly 20 percent over the past two weeks as traders consider the possibility of extended supply disruptions from the Middle East.
A continued rise above the $100-per-barrel mark could create additional inflation concerns worldwide. Higher crude prices often increase the cost of fuel, transportation, and manufacturing. These increases can affect businesses and consumers in different countries.
Energy analysts are closely watching the security situation around key maritime routes. Any further escalation could have a major impact on global oil supplies and prices.
The current market situation shows how sensitive Oil prices are to geopolitical developments. With important shipping channels facing increased risks, traders remain cautious about future price movements and supply conditions.
