Meta has announced a new initiative to provide free training in digital business and artificial intelligence (AI) to 1,000 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Pakistan. The program aims to improve digital skills, support businesses, and help companies adopt modern technology tools.
The announcement was made during a meeting between Federal Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and a Meta delegation. The delegation included Tehara Punchihewa from Asia-Pacific Public Policy and Vivian Liang, Policy Programs Manager for Asia-Pacific.
During the meeting, Meta representatives presented details of the Small Business Growth Academy. Under this program, 1,000 SMEs across Pakistan will receive free training from August to November 2026.
The training will be conducted by local partner AtomCamp. It will focus on digital platforms, AI-powered business solutions, and online marketing techniques. The sessions will include both physical classes and online learning opportunities for participants.
According to the company, the initiative is designed to strengthen digital skills among Pakistani businesses. It will also help SMEs expand their market reach and improve their ability to compete in the digital economy.
The program will also support women entrepreneurs and businesses operating in smaller cities. Officials believe the training will create more opportunities for businesses outside major urban centres.
Jam Kamal Khan said the government has made digitization a key part of its economic reform plans. He explained that Pakistan is working on digital transformation across government departments to improve services, governance, and economic performance.
The minister informed the delegation that Pakistan is preparing a detailed E-Commerce Policy. He also said work is continuing on a national Artificial Intelligence Policy to encourage innovation and technology-based growth.
Jam Kamal Khan highlighted the importance of AI in areas beyond basic communication tools. He said AI can support policy planning, data analysis, business decisions, and improve efficiency in public institutions.
The minister said Pakistan’s growing digital economy, rising smartphone usage, and young population provide strong opportunities for technology companies. He encouraged Meta to cooperate with the Directorate General of Trade Organizations (DGTO), business chambers, and trade associations to increase the program’s reach.
He also invited Meta to maintain long-term cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce. The focus areas include digital literacy, SME development, and digital trade.
