The Punjab government has extended the ban on outdoor drone flying across the province for another 30 days. The decision was announced by the Punjab Home Department in view of the current security situation. Officials said the extension is necessary to protect public safety and maintain law and order.
According to an official notification issued on July 22, 2026, the restrictions have been extended under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898. The government said the order has been issued to safeguard public peace, protect lives and property, and prevent any untoward incidents.
The ban applies to all outdoor drone operations throughout Punjab. Authorities have directed all concerned departments to ensure the restrictions are fully implemented during the extended period. Officials said the measure is part of broader efforts to strengthen security across the province.
The notification also explains that some activities will remain exempt from the restrictions. Small drones can still be used for indoor events held in halls and marquees. However, event organizers will be responsible for ensuring that drones are operated safely within enclosed spaces.
The government has also allowed exemptions for drones used in agriculture, irrigation, and research. These activities can continue because they support essential services and development projects. In addition, drone operations approved in writing by the Safe Drone Usage Committee (SDUC) will also be permitted.
According to the Home Department, the extension became necessary because of the overall security environment. Officials believe the restrictions will help protect people, government buildings, and other important public installations across Punjab. The department said preventive measures are important to reduce security risks.
The notification has been shared with all relevant provincial authorities for immediate implementation. Copies have been sent to the Chief Secretary, Inspector General of Police, divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners, and district police officers. These officials have been instructed to ensure compliance with the latest order.
Authorities have also urged citizens to follow the rules regarding drone operations. Anyone planning to use drones for exempted purposes should ensure they meet the required conditions and obtain written approval where necessary.
