The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has launched a city-wide registration drive for all unregistered graves and cemeteries.

Currently, only 38 cemeteries are officially registered with KMC. However, the city has more than 200 burial grounds in total.

Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has directed the Director of Cemeteries to start registering the rest immediately.

He also announced that the official rate for graves in KMC-managed cemeteries is fixed at Rs 14,300. This fee includes all burial services.

The Mayor warned cemetery staff and gravediggers not to charge more than the approved amount. He said strict action would be taken against violators.

To ensure transparency, KMC has already placed banners in registered cemeteries showing the fixed charges for graves.

Only registered workers will be allowed to operate inside these cemeteries. Unauthorized staff will be removed.

This move is part of KMC’s broader plan to bring all public services under regulation and reduce illegal practices.

Mayor Wahab also unveiled a Rs 55.1 billion budget for 2025–26, with Rs 5.3 billion allocated for municipal operations.

Out of this, over Rs 2.1 billion will go to departments handling land, housing, and other related services.

The registration of graves will help prevent exploitation of grieving families and ensure fair, standardized pricing across Karachi.

KMC urges citizens to report any overcharging or illegal activities at cemeteries by calling the city helpline 1339.

This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to transparency, public service, and dignity for all, even in burial services.

The Karachi Administration Sets Official Rates for Graves to ensure fair burial costs across the city.

Citizens are advised not to pay more than the fixed Rs 14,300 for graves in KMC-managed cemeteries.
