Pakistan Unveils Indigenous EO-1 Satellite Today

Pakistan’s Indigenous EO-1 Satellite Set for Launch from China

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) is set to launch its Indigenous Electro-Optical (EO-1) Satellite today, January 17, from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre (JSLC) in China.

A spokesperson from SUPARCO highlighted that the launch of the EO-1 mission underscores Pakistan’s growing technological prowess in space science and innovation. This indigenous satellite marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s space technology journey and is expected to enhance the nation’s ability to manage and monitor natural resources, predict and respond to natural disasters, and foster sustainable development through informed decision-making.

The EO-1 satellite will benefit multiple sectors in Pakistan. Specifically, in agriculture, it will facilitate precision farming by providing insights into crop health, irrigation needs, and yield predictions, thereby aiding food security initiatives.

This launch follows the success of PAKSAT MM1, Pakistan’s first multi-mission satellite, which was launched in May last year from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in China. The EO-1 satellite is designed for a 15-year operational life and is equipped with advanced communication technology, positioned 36,000 kilometers above Earth’s surface.
