On Friday, former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi was transferred from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi to Central Jail Kot Lakhpat in Lahore. This move followed a decision by Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Judge Khalid Arshad, who approved the transfer based on an application from the DIG operations.
The transfer was deemed necessary due to ongoing trial proceedings in Lahore related to the May 9 riots, which involved Qureshi. The police highlighted the logistical challenges and the inconvenience of frequently transporting Qureshi from Rawalpindi to Lahore. His lawyer had also faced difficulties during court appearances from Adiala Jail. The judge agreed that relocating Qureshi to Kot Lakhpat Jail would facilitate the trial process more effectively. Recent proceedings included the recording of statements from two prosecution witnesses related to the attack on Shadman Police Station.

This case pertains to the May 9 attack on Jinnah House by PTI leaders and activists during protests against Imran Khan’s arrest.
