Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has inaugurated 49 digital classrooms and 20 satellite schools for special children across the province as part of efforts to improve access to modern education and rehabilitation services.
The initiative was launched during a ceremony organized by the Sindh Special Education Department, where the chief minister also inaugurated a new sign language teacher training program aimed at strengthening the skills of teachers working with special children.
49 Digital Classrooms Opened Across Sindh
The newly inaugurated digital classrooms are equipped with smart boards, e-learning tools and other modern educational facilities.
The facilities are intended to provide students with greater exposure to technology and help them develop confidence in using digital learning resources.
Speaking at the ceremony, CM Murad Ali Shah said the provincial government was committed to providing quality education to every child. He emphasized the role of modern technology in creating better learning opportunities for special children.
The digital classrooms are expected to support teachers and students by introducing technology-based learning alongside existing educational methods.
20 Satellite Schools Also Launched
Alongside the digital classrooms, the Sindh government has established 20 satellite schools for special children across the province.
The expansion is intended to increase access to special education facilities and bring educational services closer to students who may face difficulties travelling to existing institutions.
The initiative forms part of the provincial government’s broader efforts to improve education, welfare and rehabilitation services for children with special needs.
New Sign Language Teacher Training Program
The Sindh government has also launched a sign language teacher training program in collaboration with Deaf Reach and FESF.
The program is designed to improve the professional capabilities of teachers working with special children, particularly in areas where effective communication is essential for classroom learning.
Training teachers in sign language can help strengthen communication between educators and students and support a more inclusive learning environment.
The initiative also recognizes that educational infrastructure and technology alone cannot deliver meaningful results without properly trained people to use them.
CM Highlights Importance of Teachers
During his address, Murad Ali Shah stressed that infrastructure and technology were not sufficient on their own.
He said meaningful progress also depends on the people who use these facilities, highlighting the importance of trained teachers and education professionals.
The focus on teacher training alongside the development of digital classrooms reflects the government’s approach of combining modern educational infrastructure with improvements in teaching capacity.
The chief minister reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to the education, welfare and rehabilitation of special children.
20,000 Students Enrolled in Special Education Institutions
Around 20,000 students are currently enrolled in 67 special education institutions across Sindh, according to the information shared at the ceremony.
Students enrolled in these institutions receive a range of services in addition to education.
These include rehabilitation services, physiotherapy, speech therapy, transportation and nutritious meals, providing support for students beyond the classroom.
The institutions therefore serve both educational and rehabilitation needs, helping students access multiple services through the special education system.
Rs3,000 Monthly Stipend for Students
The Sindh government also provides a monthly stipend of Rs3,000 to each enrolled student.
The financial support is provided alongside free education and other services available through the province’s special education institutions.
The combination of education, rehabilitation, therapy, transportation, meals and financial assistance is intended to support the wider needs of special children and their families.
Focus on Inclusive and Modern Education
The launch of digital classrooms, satellite schools and teacher training represents a broader effort to expand educational opportunities for special children across Sindh.
The new classrooms will provide access to modern digital learning tools, while satellite schools can help extend special education services to additional communities.
At the same time, the sign language training program is aimed at strengthening teachers’ ability to communicate effectively with students.
With around 20,000 students currently enrolled in 67 special education institutions, the latest initiatives add new infrastructure and training measures to Sindh’s existing special education system.
