PM Shehbaz Reaffirms Pakistan’s Strong Support for UN

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the United Nations during a meeting with Michelle Bachelet, a candidate for the post of United Nations Secretary-General, at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad.

The prime minister welcomed Bachelet and highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to multilateralism and international cooperation. He emphasized the importance of strengthening the United Nations’ role in addressing global challenges, including conflict resolution, sustainable development, climate change, and the protection of human rights.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz stressed the need for full adherence to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. He called for the faithful implementation of United Nations resolutions and international treaties, underscoring that respect for international law remains essential for maintaining global peace and stability.

The premier also urged the international community to accelerate the implementation of the global development agenda while ensuring balanced progress across the UN’s three core pillars: peace and security, sustainable development, and human rights. He said stronger international cooperation is crucial to tackling emerging global challenges and promoting inclusive growth.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s constructive role at the international level, Prime Minister Shehbaz said the country remains committed to supporting UN-led initiatives aimed at fostering peace, dialogue, and sustainable development. He noted that Pakistan has consistently contributed to UN peacekeeping operations and continues to advocate for multilateral solutions to global issues.

Michelle Bachelet appreciated Pakistan’s historic contributions to the United Nations and praised its continued efforts to promote regional and international peace and security. She acknowledged Pakistan’s active participation in UN peacekeeping missions and its support for global diplomatic initiatives.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to exchange views on the evolving international landscape and the importance of enhancing cooperation through multilateral institutions.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar and Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch also attended the meeting, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to engaging with the United Nations and supporting efforts to strengthen the organization’s effectiveness in addressing contemporary global challenges.
