Hashim Norzai, the owner of the popular Kabul Jan Restaurant in Quetta, was shot dead after unidentified gunmen opened fire on his vehicle near Kuchlak Bypass early on Saturday. Police have launched an investigation into the attack, while the motive behind the killing remains unknown.
The shooting took place near Usmania Hotel within the jurisdiction of the Airport Police Station, sending shockwaves through Quetta’s business community. According to police, Norzai, a resident of Wazirabad in Kuchlak, was driving alone from his home toward Quetta when armed assailants intercepted his vehicle and fired multiple rounds before fleeing the scene.
Police officers responding to the incident found several bullet marks on the vehicle and collected forensic evidence from the crime scene. Investigators have launched a comprehensive inquiry and said all possible motives, including personal and criminal angles, are being examined. No suspects have been arrested so far.
Witnesses told local media that rescue teams reached the scene shortly after the attack and shifted Norzai to Civil Hospital Quetta. Hospital officials confirmed that he had sustained three gunshot wounds, including a fatal bullet injury to the head. Doctors pronounced him dead shortly after his arrival at the hospital.
According to investigators, members of Norzai’s family informed police they were unaware of any personal disputes or previous threats against him, leaving the motive behind the attack unclear. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and further details will emerge after forensic analysis and witness statements.
Hashim Norzai launched Kabul Jan Restaurant on Airport Road in October last year. The restaurant quickly gained popularity for its Afghan cuisine and hospitality, attracting a large number of customers from across the city. His death has been met with grief among patrons and members of Quetta’s business community.
