The School Education Department (SED) has announced a new Spoken English Language Training Program for government school teachers across Punjab. The initiative aims to improve the English communication and writing skills of approximately 35,000 teachers working in public-sector schools.
According to officials, the program has been designed to enhance teachers’ professional abilities and help them deliver better English language instruction in classrooms. The training will focus on both spoken and written English and will follow internationally recognized learning standards.
The project will be carried out in partnership with Berlitz, a globally known language training organization, and the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC). Through this collaboration, teachers will receive structured training designed to improve their fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, and overall communication skills.
Before the training begins, participating teachers will be required to undergo an assessment to evaluate their current level of English proficiency. The department has made the completion of a mandatory Google Form assessment a prerequisite for enrollment in the program.
Training sessions will be organized at District PECTAA headquarters and selected educational institutions across the province. According to the schedule, classes will be conducted twice a week, with each session lasting two hours and fifteen minutes.
The School Education Department has emphasized that attendance will be compulsory for all selected participants. Officials stated that full participation is necessary to ensure teachers gain maximum benefit from the training and successfully achieve the program’s learning objectives.
Education authorities believe the initiative will contribute to raising the overall quality of education in government schools. By improving teachers’ English language skills, the department hopes to create a more effective learning environment for students and strengthen English instruction at the classroom level.
Education experts have welcomed the decision, describing it as a positive step toward improving language education in public schools. They believe better-trained teachers can significantly enhance students’ speaking, writing, and comprehension abilities, helping them compete more effectively in higher education and future careers.
The program reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to improve teaching standards and strengthen educational outcomes through professional development opportunities for teachers across Punjab.
