Punjab Government Announces Public Holiday on May 1 for Labour Day

The Punjab government has officially announced a Public Holiday on May 1 in observance of Labour Day. The decision was shared through an official notification issued by provincial authorities.

The Public Holiday will be observed across the entire province of Punjab. This includes major cities such as Lahore and other districts. On Friday, government offices, private offices, and educational institutions will remain closed.

The announcement comes as Pakistan prepares to mark Labour Day, which is observed every year on May 1. The day is dedicated to recognizing workers and their important role in national progress.

Labour Day is considered a significant occasion in Pakistan and many other countries. It highlights the contributions of laborers, employees, and workers in building the economy and supporting social development.

Officials confirmed that the Public Holiday applies throughout Punjab without exception. Citizens are advised to plan their schedules accordingly, as public services may be affected during the holiday.

At the same time, the government of Sindh has also announced a holiday for Labour Day. This means two major provinces in Pakistan will observe the occasion officially.

The federal government is also expected to issue a formal notification soon. If announced, it would extend the holiday across the country. A nationwide closure would allow people in all provinces to participate in Labour Day observances.

Each year, Labour Day is marked by official ceremonies, awareness campaigns, and discussions on workers’ rights. It also serves as a reminder of the need for fair wages, safe working conditions, and equal opportunities.

The annual observance is widely recognized as a time to honor the workforce. It also encourages greater appreciation for the efforts of employees in every sector.
