Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz addressed a ceremony for the CM Children Heart Surgery Program, unveiling plans for a new 1,000-bed children’s hospital at Nawaz Sharif Medical Hospital. Construction is set to begin in March.
During the event, Maryam Nawaz highlighted her commitment to improving pediatric healthcare and ensuring public funds are not wasted. She praised the thousands of successful surgeries conducted so far, saying, “Over 10,000 children have received treatment, which brings me great joy.”
She emphasized the struggles faced by families of sick children, stating, “The illness of a child is a great trial for parents. Saving children’s lives is my mission, and no life should be lost due to negligence.”
Under her leadership, Punjab has achieved significant milestones. For the first time, 800 kidney and 200 bone marrow transplants were conducted through a transplant card system. Pediatric open-heart surgeries and interventional procedures reached 10,400, compared to only 300 in the first year.
Maryam Nawaz also thanked doctors, nurses, and hospital staff for their dedication. She highlighted infrastructure improvements, including a new cath lab in Mianwali, reducing the need for patients to travel to other cities. Strict supervision in hospitals has been introduced to prevent negligence and ensure quality care.
The CM outlined major initiatives, including free medicines worth 100 billion PKR, free stroke injections, and 3 billion PKR allocated for cancer treatment, including ablation procedures. She described the children’s heart surgery program as a healthcare revolution, providing essential services at no cost to patients.
