Basant 2026 is set to return to Lahore after nearly two decades, bringing back the city’s long-awaited kite-flying festival, but fresh restrictions have been introduced for public safety. Authorities have banned kite flying in several sensitive areas to ensure the protection of air traffic near Lahore Airport.
As excitement builds for the revival of Basant 2026, officials have taken precautionary measures to avoid any hazards to flights. Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) operations are being placed under strict safety protocols, and urgent directives have been issued to stop kite flying in more than 15 locations around the airport zone. The decision aims to prevent kite strings and debris from interfering with aircraft movement.
Residents living in areas such as DHA, Nishat Colony, Ali View Garden, Ali Pak, Nadraabad, Taj Bagh, and Canal Bank have been clearly informed that kite flying will not be permitted there during the festival. According to the Punjab government, the move follows consultations between provincial and district administrations to guarantee safe and uninterrupted flight operations.
Officials confirmed that strict legal action will be taken against violators under Section 144. An official notification will soon be released, outlining the restricted zones, which include Defence Blocks P, Q, R, and S, Bhata Chowk, Joodeh Pul, Al-Faisal Town, and other nearby neighborhoods. Authorities emphasized that these steps are necessary to avoid any risks to passengers and aircraft during Basant celebrations.
While Basant 2026 promises to revive the festive spirit in Lahore, the government insists that safety remains the top priority.
Meanwhile, sports fans are also watching closely as potential India-Pakistan clashes in the Cricket World Cup continue to spark discussions about possible match boycotts, adding another layer of anticipation and debate nationwide.
