The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has introduced a new performance-based ranking system for its affiliated medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy, and allied health sciences institutions across Punjab.
Under the new framework, institutions will be evaluated annually based on multiple indicators including teaching quality, assessment standards, clinical training, faculty development, research output, and student support services. The system also includes regular academic audits to ensure compliance with approved curricula and quality benchmarks.
According to UHS Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ahsan Waheed Rathore, the initiative aims to improve educational standards and strengthen academic oversight across health sciences institutions in the province. He stated that the move is designed to ensure transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in medical education.
To implement the system effectively, UHS has tasked its Department of Medical Education with overseeing academic quality assurance and curriculum monitoring. The university also plans to introduce a real-time digital dashboard that will track institutional performance indicators and help identify areas needing improvement.
Under the policy, top-performing institutions will be rewarded with recognition and increased opportunities for research collaborations, academic partnerships, and faculty development programs. Institutions that consistently underperform will be placed under stricter monitoring and may face corrective measures to improve standards.
The new ranking and evaluation framework has come into effect immediately and applies to all constituent and affiliated colleges under UHS across Punjab. Officials say the system is expected to create healthy competition and significantly enhance the overall quality of health sciences education in the region.
