The City Traffic Police Rawalpindi has expanded the Punjab Safe Cities Authority’s automatic e-challan system to 14 additional locations across the city, aiming to improve traffic law enforcement, enhance road safety, and reduce traffic violations.
The move is part of the Punjab government’s broader effort to modernize traffic management through smart surveillance technology. With the expanded network now operational, motorists violating traffic rules can receive e-challans without being stopped by traffic wardens, ensuring smoother traffic flow while promoting stricter compliance with road regulations.
Smart Cameras to Detect Traffic Violations
According to a police spokesperson, the newly installed smart cameras automatically monitor traffic and identify violations such as speeding, signal violations, and other offenses.
Once a violation is detected, the system records the vehicle’s details and automatically generates an e-challan, which is issued to the registered owner. Officials say this technology minimizes human intervention, improves transparency, and helps enforce traffic laws more efficiently.
The authorities believe the automated enforcement system will discourage reckless driving while reducing opportunities for disputes during roadside checks.
14 New Locations Added
The expanded e-challan network has been activated at several key roads and intersections across Rawalpindi.
The newly covered locations include:
- Abid Majeed Road near Army Medical College
- Lane 4 on Main Peshawar Road
- Raafi Mall on Main Peshawar Road
- Chauhar Chowk on Main Peshawar Road
- Chishtia Abad Turn on Main Peshawar Road
- Rawal Road near Benazir Bhutto Hospital
- Hameed Khan Chowk on Murree Road
- Committee Chowk near Fish Market on Murree Road
- Bohar Bazaar opposite Naaz Cinema on Murree Road
- Double Road Turn Shalimar
- Dhoke Khallo near Sixth Road
- Survey of Pakistan U-Turn on Murree Road
- Sanober City on Main Adiala Road
- U-Turn Chowk near Punjab Housing Authority on Main Adiala Road
Officials selected these locations because of their heavy traffic volume and frequent traffic violations.
Better Traffic Management Through Technology
Traffic police say the expanded camera network will help improve discipline on Rawalpindi’s roads while reducing congestion and accidents.
Unlike traditional enforcement methods, the automated system continuously monitors traffic throughout the day, allowing authorities to identify violations even when traffic wardens are not present.
The Punjab Safe Cities Authority has been gradually expanding its intelligent traffic management infrastructure across major cities by deploying surveillance cameras, automated monitoring systems, and digital enforcement tools.
