The Supreme Court of Pakistan has introduced major digital reforms in its judicial system. The changes aim to improve speed, transparency, and access to justice across the country.
Officials said the Supreme Court has now enabled multi-location hearings. This system allows judges, lawyers, and litigants to join proceedings from different cities. Physical presence is no longer required in many cases.
In a recent hearing, the bench was present in Islamabad. Lawyers joined the proceedings from Quetta, Karachi, and Hyderabad. The system worked smoothly and ensured equal participation for all sides.
Chief Justice Yahya Afridi presided over the proceedings from Islamabad. Justice Ayesha A. Malik joined remotely from Lahore. This showed the flexibility of the upgraded system.
The Supreme Court has also moved to fully digital case management. Physical files are being replaced with electronic records. This change is designed to improve efficiency and reduce delays.
Officials said digital files can now be accessed instantly during hearings. This removes the need to search for physical documents in court registries. It also speeds up case processing significantly.
The reforms include digital case filing and barcode-based tracking systems. The Supreme Court has also introduced electronic court orders and online payment systems. Video-link hearings are now part of regular proceedings.
An e-office system has also been launched for administrative work. This system helps manage internal processes in a more organized and efficient way.
Authorities said these steps represent a major shift in judicial operations. The Supreme Court aims to make the justice system more accessible and transparent for citizens.
Officials added that removing geographical barriers is a key goal. People from remote areas can now participate in hearings without traveling long distances.
