The MAX, Pakistan’s first-ever franchise-based hockey tournament, is set to give the national sport of Pakistan a facelift. It is also known as the Pakistan Hockey Super League (PHSL 2022). One of Pakistan’s field hockey legend Manzoor Hussain Junior passed away on Monday 29th Of August due to a heart attack. Manzoor was admitted to the hospital on Monday morning, according to his son Faisal, and the physicians tried to rescue him by inserting three heart stents, but they were unable to do so. Manzoor was the chairman of the national selection committee at the time.
The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), which is unable to send its men’s national team to the FIH Nations Cup, a qualifying tournament for the Pro League, faces the risk of being suspended by the organisation that oversees the sport worldwide (FIH). On Saturday, a number of prominent former Olympians and captains—among them Islahuddin Siddiqui, Samiullah, Asif Bajwa, Rana Mujahid, Rasheed ul Hasan, Manzoor junior, and Hasan Sardar—appealed to the government to grant money to the PHF so it could send a team to Potchefstroom in South Africa.
