Pakistan has been invited to compete in the highly anticipated Asian Hockey Champions Trophy 2023, which will be held in Chennai, India, from August 3 to 12.

According to sources within the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), the federation intends to host training camps to prepare the national team for the coveted event. In the following week, the PHF is anticipated to reveal additional information regarding the camp and the selected players.

The Asian Champions Trophy is extremely important for Pakistan since it provides as a crucial platform for team preparation ahead of the Asian Games 2023, which will be held in China.

Despite a serious financial situation, the federation led the young squad to the final of the young Asia Cup 2023 in Oman, securing qualification for the Junior Hockey World Cup 2023. The Green Shirts almost missed out on the title in a dramatic match against their arch-rivals, India, falling 2-1.

The PHF has struggled to meet the costs of organising training camps, travel, lodging, player salaries, and coach compensation for international hockey games.

However, it is expected that the recent success of the junior squad and their qualification for the Junior World Cup will open the way for financial support from the federal government, assisting the federation in resolving its current financial challenges.
