ISLAMABAD – Shehbaz Sharif has indicated that a second round of the “Islamabad Talks” could take place soon, signaling fresh diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions between the United States and Iran.
Speaking about the ongoing peace efforts, the prime minister said Pakistan would continue working sincerely to support dialogue and regional stability. He stated that Islamabad is prepared to host another round of talks in the near future as international efforts for peace continue to intensify behind closed doors.
Shehbaz Sharif also congratulated Donald Trump, praising what he described as important efforts toward advancing peace and dialogue. His remarks came after a high-level international phone call involving several regional leaders.
According to reports, the diplomatic conversation included leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Türkiye, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Bahrain, and Pakistan.
Asim Munir represented Pakistan during the discussions. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif publicly appreciated his role and acknowledged his continued efforts throughout the evolving diplomatic process.
Officials said the discussions focused on the rapidly changing regional situation and possible ways to move ongoing peace initiatives forward to ensure long-term stability in the region.
Pakistan also reaffirmed its commitment to playing a constructive and positive role in international diplomatic efforts. Government sources suggested that Islamabad has quietly emerged as an important facilitator in backchannel negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Reports further claimed that Pakistan has assisted in shaping a possible framework aimed at easing tensions between the United States and Iran. These diplomatic efforts come after a fragile ceasefire reportedly took effect on April 8 following months of escalating tensions that affected regional security, maritime trade routes, and global energy markets.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei also expressed cautious optimism, stating that Tehran is in the final stages of preparing a framework agreement with Washington.
