Iran has said it has not yet decided whether to send a delegation to Islamabad for potential talks with the United States.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei, in remarks to a local news outlet, stated that Iran’s participation in the Islamabad discussions remains undecided. He noted that Tehran will only join the talks if they are considered meaningful and capable of delivering results.
Addressing reports of US actions against Iranian vessels, Baghaei described any targeting of Iranian ships or maritime trade in international waters as a grave breach of international law, calling it an act of piracy and state-sponsored aggression.
He reiterated Iran’s longstanding distrust of the United States, saying such incidents further deepen concerns over Washington’s intentions and credibility.
Baghaei added that Iran has maintained skepticism toward the US from the outset. Referring to a recent 40-day conflict, he claimed the opposing side failed to meet its objectives despite causing damage and attempting to target Iranian leadership. He credited the resilience of the Iranian people and armed forces for preventing those goals from being achieved.
He further explained that Iran’s possible participation in talks hosted in Pakistan reflects a responsible diplomatic stance, but emphasized that engagement must produce tangible outcomes. A final decision, he said, will be made at an appropriate time.
The spokesperson concluded by reaffirming that no decision has been finalized regarding participation in the Islamabad talks, adding that any updates will be shared transparently with the public.
