The Quetta district administration has banned a planned rally by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), citing serious security concerns. A heavy police presence has been deployed around the venue at the hockey ground, with the main entrance sealed and routes to the site blocked. The government’s decision to deny permission was based on potential security risks and the ongoing Public Service Commission exams at Ayub Stadium. The Quetta deputy commissioner emphasized that ensuring safety for a large political gathering under current conditions would be challenging and warned of strict action in case of any legal violations.
This decision follows PTI’s request to hold the rally either at Ayub Stadium or the hockey ground, both of which were rejected by the administration. Additionally, a government order prohibiting political events in sports facilities was reiterated. Despite the ban, PTI representatives in Balochistan have vowed to go ahead with the rally, urging supporters to gather at the hockey ground by 2pm.
