Punjab to Introduce New Uniforms for Traffic Police Officers

The Punjab Police have decided to introduce another change to the Lahore Traffic Police uniform, less than a year after rolling out the current dress code. The move is expected to replace the existing uniform with a new colour scheme as part of the department’s latest administrative decision.

According to police sources, traffic wardens will no longer wear the current combination of white shirts and blue trousers. Instead, they are expected to receive uniforms in a bluish-grey colour. The change represents the latest update in the appearance of the traffic police, following the previous redesign introduced last year.

The current uniform was launched during the tenure of former Chief Traffic Officer Athar Waheed. At that time, each traffic warden was provided Rs5,000 to purchase the newly approved uniform. The department had described the previous redesign as an effort to modernise the force’s appearance and maintain a professional image while performing traffic management duties.

Officials said the decision to introduce another uniform was discussed during a meeting chaired by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Logistics and Procurement. The meeting was attended by senior representatives from the Logistics Wing, Resource Management Department, and the Punjab Highway Patrol. The participants reviewed uniform requirements and agreed on the proposed changes.

Despite the revision for traffic wardens, the Punjab Highway Patrol will continue using its current uniform design. However, authorities plan to provide Highway Patrol officers and personnel with a standardised version of their existing dress to ensure greater uniformity across the force.

The latest decision reflects the Punjab Police’s ongoing efforts to review operational standards and maintain a consistent professional identity among its personnel. While officials have confirmed the proposed colour change, no timeline has yet been announced for distributing the new uniforms or implementing the revised dress code.

Further details, including the rollout schedule and procurement process, are expected to be shared once the department finalises the implementation plan. The new uniform is likely to become part of a broader effort to standardise police attire across different branches of the Punjab Police.
