Punjab Medical Faculty (PMF) has announced a major change to its examination system, with all annual examinations set to move to a fully multiple-choice question (MCQ) format from December 2026.
Under the new system, examination papers will consist entirely of MCQs, while students’ answer sheets will be checked using Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) machines.
The new examination system is aimed at making the assessment process faster, more transparent, and more efficient. Automated checking will reduce the time required to evaluate answer sheets and is expected to help PMF announce examination results more quickly.
The use of OMR technology is also expected to minimize the possibility of human errors during the checking process. By replacing manual evaluation with automated scanning, the faculty aims to make result preparation more organized and reliable.
According to PMF officials, the changes are being introduced to provide greater convenience to students while improving transparency in the examination process.
The new format will apply to all annual examinations conducted by the Punjab Medical Faculty from December onward. Students appearing in these examinations will therefore need to prepare according to the new MCQ-based assessment system.
The shift represents a significant change for PMF students who are accustomed to traditional examination formats. Candidates will need to focus on understanding concepts and selecting the correct answers from the options provided in each question.
The introduction of OMR-based checking is also expected to streamline the administrative process for the faculty. Since answer sheets can be scanned and processed electronically, the system could reduce delays associated with manual checking and compilation of results.
PMF has described the move as part of its efforts to modernize the examination system and improve the overall experience for students.
For students preparing for upcoming PMF examinations, the change means that understanding the new paper pattern and practicing MCQs will become increasingly important. The December examinations will be the first major test of the newly introduced system.
