Punjab Launches ‘Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar’ Scheme for Farmers

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has formally introduced the “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar” online portal, a major step aimed at strengthening agricultural output and improving rural incomes across the province.

The initiative focuses on supporting landless villagers by providing them access to productive farmland collectively valued at around Rs160 billion. Under this programme, agricultural land will be distributed among deserving families throughout Punjab to promote self-reliance and farming opportunities.

According to official details, 13,812 plots will be allotted in different districts, benefiting approximately 88,780 families. In the Cholistan region alone, 16,685 plots will be distributed, supporting around 101,111 families. Each selected beneficiary will receive farmland worth between Rs2.5 million and Rs4 million, depending on location and land quality.

To further assist new farmers, the government has identified land based on soil fertility and water availability. Senior Board of Revenue member Nabeel Javed stated that each allottee will also receive a one-time financial support grant ranging from Rs50,000 to Rs250,000 per acre to help initiate cultivation activities.

In total, more than 124,000 acres of irrigated agricultural land will be leased out for a period of 10 years, strictly for farming purposes. The government aims to ensure productive use of land while empowering rural communities economically.

The application process for interested farmers will begin on May 2 and continue until May 18. Applicants will also be able to file appeals between June 1 and June 8 at the Deputy Commissioner’s office if needed. The final list of selected beneficiaries will be released on June 19, while land distribution is scheduled to begin from June 30.

In cases where multiple applicants qualify for the same plot, selection will be made through a transparent lottery system. Beneficiaries will have the freedom to grow any crops of their choice, though permanent construction on the allocated land will not be allowed.

Overall, the initiative is being seen as a significant step toward rural development and agricultural empowerment in Punjab.
