The smartphone app displayed the same notice, but it was still fully functional. It is safe to claim that the hack caused no damage and was simply an exploit to display a message to everyone.

Bykea’s main website was unharmed, and the app no longer displays any harmful messages. There is no confirmation that this was an attack by Indian hackers, although the terminology suggests it.

According to researchers, this attack was most likely directed at Bykea’s marketing communications capabilities, which are in charge of sending push notifications to customers. Typically, this is a third-party product.

Bykea’s official statement acknowledges this as well.

We sincerely sorry for the inappropriate messaging sent via Bykea. We can confirm that this was a compromised third-party communication tool. Our staff has repaired it, and the Bykea app is now fully operational and secure. If users have any problems, we are available on our helpline.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
