Pakistan Cricket Board has handed a one-year ban to Dasun Shanaka after he withdrew from the Pakistan Super League in violation of his contractual obligations.
According to the board, Shanaka had been signed by Lahore Qalandars for the 11th edition of the tournament but later pulled out, breaching the agreement he had committed to. Following this decision, the PCB declared him ineligible to take part in the next season, PSL 12, as part of disciplinary action.
The cricket board stressed that firm measures were necessary, stating that Shanaka’s withdrawal directly contradicted league rules and agreements. It further highlighted that preserving the integrity, professionalism, and reputation of the PSL is a key priority, and any violation of contracts would be dealt with strictly.
Reacting to the decision, Shanaka expressed strong regret over his actions and issued an apology to fans in Pakistan as well as the broader cricketing community. He acknowledged the significance of the Pakistan Super League as a globally recognized competition and admitted that his withdrawal had disappointed supporters, particularly fans of Lahore Qalandars.
Shanaka also clarified that his decision to step away from the tournament was not driven by plans to participate in another league. He reiterated his respect for Pakistani cricket fans and shared that he has always valued the opportunity to play in Pakistan. Looking ahead, he voiced hope of returning to the PSL in the future with greater dedication and commitment.
In a separate development, the PCB also imposed a two-year ban on Blessing Muzarabani over a different PSL-related issue, reinforcing its strict stance on contractual discipline.
