Pakistan has decided to delay Mango exports until June 1 in an effort to protect quality and maintain its global reputation. The decision was taken by the Federal Ministry of Commerce after making changes to the Export Policy Order 2022.
According to officials, the new policy restricts the export of Mango shipments before the set date. All other export conditions will remain unchanged. Authorities have also informed customs and other relevant departments about the updated rules.
The decision comes after strong concerns raised by exporters. Industry representatives warned that climate change, rising freight costs, and regional tensions could negatively impact the Mango export season. They argued that early shipments may lead to poor-quality fruit reaching international markets.
The Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association has highlighted the impact of changing weather patterns on the crop. According to the association, mangoes need more time on trees to develop proper taste, sweetness, and aroma.
Exporters say harvesting too early could damage Pakistan’s reputation in global markets. Waheed Ahmed, patron-in-chief of PFVEA, described mango as the “ambassador” of Pakistan. He emphasized that quality should not be compromised for early profits.
The government’s decision is aimed at ensuring that only fully ripened fruit is exported. This approach is expected to help maintain high standards and strengthen Pakistan’s position in international markets.
Last year, Pakistan exported around 110,000 tons of mangoes worth approximately $90 million. For the current season, production is expected to reach about 2.5 million tons. However, exporters believe shipments may fall between 80,000 and 100,000 tons due to ongoing challenges.
Experts say multiple factors will influence export performance this year. These include weather conditions, freight costs, and demand in global markets. A final export target is expected to be announced in mid-May after a detailed review.
The move to delay Mango exports reflects a cautious approach by authorities. It aims to balance economic goals with long-term brand value. By focusing on quality, Pakistan hopes to sustain demand for its mangoes worldwide.

As the season progresses, stakeholders will continue to monitor crop conditions and market trends. The success of this strategy will depend on maintaining consistency in both quality and supply.
