Millions of Pilgrims Observe Day of Arafat During Hajj 2026

More than 1.6 million Muslim pilgrims gathered at the Plain of Arafat on Tuesday to perform the most important pillar of Hajj 2026, spending the day in prayer, reflection, and devotion. The massive gathering marked the spiritual peak of the annual Islamic pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

From the early hours of the ninth day of Zilhajj, pilgrims travelled toward Arafat and remained within the sacred boundaries of the site until sunset. The Day of Arafat carries deep religious significance for Muslims and is considered the heart of the Hajj pilgrimage.

Throughout the day, worshippers engaged in recitation of the Holy Quran, remembrance of Allah Almighty, and personal supplications. Pilgrims continuously recited Talbiyah and Takbeer while seeking forgiveness and mercy in an atmosphere filled with faith, humility, and unity among Muslims from around the world.

The Day of Arafat is observed one day before Eidul Azha and commemorates the place where Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) delivered one of his final sermons during the last year of his blessed life. The occasion remains one of the holiest and most emotional moments of the Islamic calendar.

At noon, the annual Arafah sermon was delivered to pilgrims, providing religious guidance and emphasizing the spiritual importance of Hajj, patience, unity, and obedience to Allah Almighty. Pilgrims later offered Zuhr and Asr prayers together according to Islamic tradition followed during Hajj rituals.

After sunset, pilgrims began departing from Arafat toward Muzdalifah, where they were expected to combine Maghrib and Isha prayers before spending the night under the open sky in worship and rest ahead of the symbolic stoning ritual. Saudi health authorities remained on high alert as temperatures crossed 45 degrees Celsius, urging pilgrims to stay hydrated and avoid direct sun exposure during the intense heat.
