Kanwal Aftab has faced criticism on social media after responding to comments about her makeup during her ongoing Hajj journey.
Kanwal Aftab and her husband Zulqarnain Sikandar are among Pakistan’s most popular digital content creators. The couple has built a massive following through family vlogs and social media content over the past several years. Kanwal Aftab currently has more than 22 million followers on TikTok, while Zulqarnain Sikandar has nearly 18 million followers on the platform. Together, they also enjoy millions of followers on Instagram and YouTube.
The couple is currently in Mecca to perform Hajj and have been regularly sharing pictures and videos from their spiritual journey with fans online.
However, one of Kanwal Aftab’s recent videos became the center of controversy after social media users noticed her wearing visible makeup, including dark makeup and maroon lipstick, while dressed in Hajj attire.
The video quickly went viral and sparked debate among users online. Many people criticized the influencer and questioned whether wearing makeup during Hajj and Ihram was appropriate.
Responding to the criticism, Kanwal Aftab addressed the issue in another video. She said many people were specifically focusing on her lipstick and questioned why makeup was being linked to worship. She also stated that the formal rituals of Hajj begin from 8 Zil Hajj and suggested that critics should first understand the religious process before making judgments.
Despite her clarification, the comments section continued to attract criticism from social media users. Some users argued that makeup is not allowed during the state of Ihram, while others said makeup during Hajj should be avoided because it may attract unnecessary attention.
The discussion has since become a trending topic online, with users divided between supporting Kanwal Aftab and criticizing her appearance during the sacred pilgrimage.
