Applicants can upload their passport photo, complete the application form, and pay the required fees through the digital platform. Most people will no longer need to mail documents or visit a Service Canada Centre.
Previously, only a limited number of applicants had access to the online renewal system. With the latest expansion, Canada has opened the service to all eligible adult citizens who meet the required conditions.
The government believes the new digital option will improve access to passport services across the country. Officials said it will particularly benefit people living in rural and remote communities, where visiting a passport office may require significant travel.
The online system is also expected to help individuals with mobility challenges by allowing them to complete the renewal process from home. At the same time, traditional mail-in and in-person passport services will remain available for those who prefer those methods or need additional assistance.

In recent years, Canada has introduced several improvements to its passport services. One major addition is the online passport application status checker, which allows applicants to track the progress of their applications through an official digital platform.
The government has also expanded access to its 10-business-day passport processing service at selected Service Canada Centres. This initiative is intended to provide faster service for eligible applicants.
Another important feature is the country’s passport service guarantee. Under this policy, passport applications should be processed within 30 business days. If the government does not meet this commitment, eligible applicants will receive their passport free of charge.
